If you’re planting new plants this spring, the Dallas County Master Gardener Association recommends considering Texas Superstar® perennials—i.e. plants that are beautiful yet come back year after year with little care and not much water. To receive the Superstar® designation by Texas A&M AgriLife Extension Service, a plant has performed well in a variety of Texas climates, is resistant to pests and diseases, and can be grown readily enough to provide garden centers with enough supply.

Some of the Superstar® perennials include Cape Plumbago, Dwarf Mexican Petunia, New Gold Lantana, Butterfly Vine, Red Yucca, and Flare Hibiscus. The Superstar® list also includes woody shrubs, various trees, and specialty plants like Tycoon tomato and Green Magic broccoli.
