Even before COVID-19, there have been times when trash and recycling schedules have had to change due to evolving circumstances. One such impact could be the breakdown of a vehicle. When this happens, it causes collection crews to arrive later in some areas, but other crews may be adjusted to expand their collections zones to cover the lost time. When that happens, they can arrive earlier than usual in some neighborhoods.
Situations like this have solid waste workers asking for residents’ assistance to help ensure trash and recycling is collected as expected. They provide the following information below as the best ways to help:
- Have items out by 7 a.m.
Trash, recycling and brush/bulky item collection (BABIC) can occur at different times of the day. Crews ask that material be set out by 7 a.m. on your collection day, even if you have previously observed crews picking up in your area later in the day. - Use trash bags, not bins
Due to safety concerns, workers cannot empty bins filled with trash or recycling items. Trash must be set out in bags. Items meant for recycling need to be placed in blue recycling bags. - Call BABIC by midnight
For large piles of brush, limbs and/or items weighing 50 pounds or more, call BABIC (972-744-4111) by midnight the day before your scheduled collection day. Additionally, separate compostable and non-compostable items, and be sure to let BABIC know if you’ve got compostable items.
