The City Council approved a resolution Monday authorizing the City Manager to take “necessary action” to provide relief measures for Richardson residents and businesses impacted by last month’s winter storm, specifically:
- provide water customers with a one-time “drip credit” of $15 to be applied during a future billing cycle;
- provide free one-week rental of eight-yard dumpsters on a first-come, first-serve basis, including the set-up, drop off and pick-up, for repairs related to the winter storm damage; and
- waive building permit and plumbing permit fees for repairs and work related to the winter storm damage.
During the 10-day winter weather event, water customers were asked to drip faucets to prevent pipes from freezing. City personnel performed almost 1,000 emergency water shutoffs and responded to 26 water main breaks. Water usage climbed during the week to 32 million gallons in one day, double the average 16 million gallons/day for this time of year.
