Every year, dozens of DFW-area companies come together to participate in the Richardson Corporate Challenge. This year, the 10-week Olympic-style competition is celebrating 26 years and will kick off Friday, Aug. 9 at 5:30 p.m. with an opening ceremony. People traveling near Huffhines Park during this time can expect to see more traffic in the area.

The Federal Emergency Management Agency (FEMA) extended the deadline to apply for FEMA Individual Assistance (IA) (for homeowners and renters affected by the April and May storms who reside in Dallas County and Collin County) to Aug. 15.

August is MedicAlert Awareness Month. Medical professionals and first responders advise that anyone with an increased risk of a medical emergency have their personal health and medical history information readily available in their homes during an emergency. This is important for anyone with special health conditions or needs and most seniors.

The annual Dog Splash Day is scheduled for Sunday, Aug. 18. An incorrect date was published in the August edition of Richardson Today.
