RICHARDSON – The Richardson Police Department held its annual Youth Citizen Police Academy and we wanted to share with you some of the fun activities the teens participated in this past week.

Youth tested out the department’s speed guns and learned what’s inside each police car. They were introduced to crime scene investigators, dispatch, crime prevention, and SWAT. They learned about drunk and distracted driving, the partnership between Richardson Police and other law enforcement agencies, and they had a chance to see a canine unit in action, a law enforcement helicopter and drone unit.

The Academy is a one-week program for youth ages 13-17 that allows them the opportunity to experience what it’s like being a police officer.

Teens interested in participating next summer may apply online or contact their RISD School Resource Officer for details.
