Construction at the Animal Shelter continued this week, as the Shelter’s 44 dog kennels get a makeover, funded in part by the 2015 Bond Program. The kennels are being transformed from a chain-link style to colorful, solid panel walls with clear acrylic doors, to improve safety, security, disease control and noise. In addition, there will be improved insulation, mounted water bowls and an improved drainage system.

As the project is scheduled for completion in the fall, the Shelter continues to need help from the public in adopting or fostering dogs, as available space is limited and filling up with stray dogs (no dog owner surrenders are currently being accepted). Volunteers may also participate in Doggy Day Out, which helps a dog get a break from the noisy environment of the Shelter and helps with socialization. Space for cats at the shelter is not being affected by the renovations.
