Altrusa International of Richardson, Inc. held a reception earlier today at the Richardson Woman’s Club Founders Hall to honor local female employees in the medical, nonprofit and public safety fields who have served the community during the pandemic. In addition, Mayor Pro Tem Janet Depuy was presented a ceremonial check for $120,067.78, representing the hours of volunteer time invested in the city by the organization in the past year.

The 17 honorees at the “Outstanding Women of Today: 2021 Unsung Heroes Reception” included three City of Richardson first responders:

  • Avery Atkins, firefighter with the Richardson Fire Department;
  • Lauren Parent, firefighter with the Richardson Fire Department; and
  • Sherry Cal Buford, public safety telecommunicator supervisor with the Richardson Police Department.

Richardson’s Altrusa International, Inc. provides support to many agencies including the Richardson Public Library, Animal Shelter, RISD and Network of Community Ministries. It also helps make the Richardson Reads One Book event possible.
