Three winners have been announced in the inaugural Martin Luther King, Jr. Essay Contest. The contest was held in January and open to students in grades 3-12 who live in the City of Richardson or attend a Richardson ISD or Plano ISD school in Richardson. The Richardson City Council, in partnership with Richardson ISD, Plano ISD and UT Dallas, sponsored the contest as a way to promote, embrace and celebrate the diversity and inclusion that is present in Richardson and across the nation.

The winners are:

3rd-5th Grade
Clara Eves

6th-8th Grade
Sara Heiser

9th-12th grade
Grace Brantley

Students were asked to write an essay explaining how the teachings of Dr. Martin Luther King, Jr. can be used to help promote inclusion and contribute to our diverse community. Each winner will receive $100, have their essay published in a future edition of Richardson Today and on the City’s other communications channels, and will be recognized at a future City Council meeting.
