The Richardson Citizen Police Academy Alumni Association (RCPAAA) will hold the fall electronic recycling and paper shredding event Saturday, Oct. 19 from 9 a.m.-1 p.m. in the parking lot east of the old Sears store at the Richardson Square Mall (see map).
Acceptable items include phones, GPS devices, calculators, MP3 players, PDAs, radios, satellite receivers, VCRs, DVD players, remote controls, speakers, cameras, computers and accessories, speakers, printers and cartridges, copiers, scanners, shredders, typewriters, etc. CRT TVs or computer monitors CANNOT be accepted. Flat screen monitors and televisions are OK.
NO hazardous waste items will be accepted. This includes batteries, paint, cleaners and fluorescent bulbs. Visit www.cor.net/hhw for more information on hazardous waste disposal.
Due to rising costs for shredding paper, most of the paper brought to the event will be shredded offsite. For those who need to witness the shredding, there will be one truck that is capable of shredding onsite. When that truck is full, all the remaining paper will be shredded offsite. Documents and paper will be loaded into containers, secured and transported to the Shred-It facility in Coppell. Shred-It provides the RCPAAA with a certificate of destruction and it will be shared with anyone who would like to have it. Please remove any paper from three-ring binders prior to the event. Paper clips and staples are allowed. Personal shredding will be limited to what can fit into a car.
This recycling event is free and open to anyone who lives in the North Texas area. The RCPAAA is a nonprofit organization supporting the Richardson Police Department (RPD) and was founded in 1993. Donations will be solicited to help cover the cost of this event as well as to help support the RPD. Among the activities RCPAAA sponsors are the annual RPD appreciation meal, gifts to newly hired police officers, gifts to retiring police employees, scholarships to children of RPD employees (both current and retired), and the Retired K-9 Vet Assistance program.
