Work began Monday on the streets/infrastructure portion of the Main Street Redevelopment/Reinvestment Project, starting with the reconstruction of the culvert crossing Polk Street (see story below). Electronic signs are in the area to inform motorists. Future infrastructure work includes widening the sidewalks and removing on-street parking on Main Street, adding public parking at the northwest corner of Main Street and Greenville Avenue, improving crosswalks and adding new “open space” areas. The infrastructure work is expected to be completed by late 2020.
The Project’s vision for the area is for it to become a more pedestrian-friendly, aesthetically pleasing place to live, work, dine out and shop, not only via infrastructure improvements, but also the installation of public art and the creation of the new Public Safety Campus.
