As the holidays near, it’s time to start thinking about your kitchen sink and pipes. The day after Thanksgiving is called “Brown Friday” because it’s the busiest day of the year for plumbers. The fat, oil and grease residue left over from cooking will harden after being poured down the drain and could result in clogged pipes. If you’re cooking for the Christmas holiday or the New Year as well, the same concern applies.

The increase in calls is due to:
• Big meal preparation and kitchen cleanup
• Bones down the drain
• Grease and potatoes

You can save hundreds and possibly thousands of dollars in plumbing bills by helping to “Cease the Grease.” Instead of pouring grease down the drain, you can take it to the City’s Holiday Grease Roundup and recycle it for free. This year, the City is offering two opportunities for you to do so.
