Texan biologist and illustrator Erin Curry has been selected as the featured artist for the City’s Fall Cottonwood Art Festival, taking place Oct. 7-8. Inspired by mythology, Hispanic culture, Japanese gods, children’s tales and taxidermy, Curry’s artwork depicts meticulously drawn skeletons, winged creatures, organs, masks and flowers that are often crafted within vintage frames and custom shadow boxes.
Curry, a self-taught artist, graduated with a degree in biology and was working at the Dallas Zoo when she began drawing at the age of 26. The Cottonwood Art Festival was the first “big” festival to accept her work, nine years ago. As part of being named Cottonwood’s upcoming Featured Artist, her designs will be showcased on festival merchandise and other promotional materials.
