City Aquatics staff told the City Council at its Monday work session that it is fully staffed with pool managers, lifeguards and swim instructors in advance of the summer swim season kicking off later this month. In order to attract employees, the department increased pay for various positions and is paying for lifeguard certifications rather than having lifeguards earn costs back through an incentive program, while also striving to maintain offseason relationships with 2022 staff. Of the 114 seasonal staff members, 62 are returning from 2022, compared to only about half that number in previous years.
The Heights Family Aquatic Center will be open Memorial Day weekend, May 27-29, then re-open for the season Saturday, June 3. The first day of operation at the four neighborhood pools—Canyon Creek, Cottonwood, Glenville and Terrace—will be Saturday, June 3. Each of the five pools is expected to be open six days a week throughout the summer swim season.
