Development Services staff provided a briefing to the City Council Monday regarding infill development in the city, including potential properties and the types of infill development that could be appropriate. Infill development is residential or commercial development on unused, underused or blighted land, often on small areas between existing buildings or on land within a built-up area.
Included in the presentation was an overview of “pocket neighborhoods,” a trending type of infill development. Pocket neighborhoods are planned communities consisting of a grouping of smaller, individual residences around common courtyards to promote a sense of community, with a reduction or segregation of parking and roadways, and shared community buildings and amenities.
After receiving City Council feedback, Development Services will engage in further study on infill development as part of the Comprehensive Plan update and communicate Council and community feedback to potential developers.
