Spring Creek Nature Walking TrailWork was completed last month on the Spring Creek Nature Area’s new perimeter trail. The 4,200-foot-long concrete trail is 10 feet wide and connects to the existing Central Trail on the northwest side of the Nature Area, runs along Renner Road and then heads south on Plano Road toward Foxboro Park, where it connects with the Nature Area’s existing trail system. The trail includes benches and trash receptacles and was designed to have minimal impact on the adjacent forest.

Work is now underway on two new entry portals that will be located along the trail at the intersections of Renner Road and Plano Road and at Renner Road and Routh Creek Parkway. The portals are expected to be complete by April 2019 (see story page 1). Please note that the concrete for the perimeter trail nearest the entry portals will not be poured until work on the portals is complete. Mulch has been temporarily placed along the trail at the northeast and northwest corners of the Nature Area until the portals are finished.

The idea for the new trail came from the Spring Creek Nature Area Master Plan, which was developed in 2015 after the city acquired the land that makes up the northern portion of the park.
